ANKARA, TURKEY
Stating that they will file a criminal complaint about the police attack against an event organised for the commemoration of the young people who were killed in the Suruç Massacre, the organisers of the event emphasised that this attack by the Turkish state is proof that they are the perpetrators of Suruç massacre.
Youth organisations in Ankara released a statement regarding the police violence against the event, which was organised to commemorate the 33 young people who were immortalised in Suruç. The event took place in the city on July 20 on the 5th anniversary of the massacre.
During the statement made at the Human Rights Association (İHD) Headquarters, the photographs of 33 people who died in the Suruç Massacre were displayed.
One of the youth, Doğa Emek Ünlü stated that the police attacked the event with brutality and torture. Stating that the police violence continued even after the detention, Ünlü said, “4 of our friends have facial paralysis, fractures, muscle rupture, etc.”
Ünlü continued; “On 20 July, we were exposed to the inhuman intervention of the police in front of the Gama business center in Ankara. We know the origin of the anger we encounter. The source of their anger is fear. It is the fear created by the tremors of their thrones. Their fear is Gezi. Their fear is us screaming the slogan ‘Justice for Suruç, justice for everyone’, their fear is our belief, our will, our determination.
On the 20th of July, we saw once again that such a brutal attack by the state is proof that it was the perpetrator of the massacre. They are afraid, they are right to be afraid, we will make their fears come true. Here, we say once again: they will pay for the massacre in Suruç, for all 33 of our friends. ”
“Whatever they do”
Şamil Parlak, who had a temporary paralysis in his face as a result of the police attack, said: “We would like to thank the press workers who heard our voices in solidarity with HDP MP Hüseyin Kaçmaz who was with us on the day of the attack. We knew that when we were going to Güvenpark, the police would appear and they would do the same to us as they did to our comrades 5 years ago.
After being taken into custody through torture, we were kept in police buses for a long time without a mask despite the hot weather. The police attacks and torture continued until we were released.
In Ankara, the police have been trying to prevent any kind of activity with violence and torture for a long time. While organizing the Suruç campaign, we went to Güvenpark to change this attitude knowing what would happen to us. Going out onto the streets on the 5th year of the death of our friends is what they would have wanted.
33 dream passengers who wanted to go to Kobanê, the heart and soul of resistance and 33 dream passengers left us this resistance to inherit. We will continue this resistance. Whatever they do, we will continue organizing to resist on the street. Suruç is resistance. ”
We will be followers…
İHD Secretary General Osman İşçi described the attacks as a turning point for rights violations in the last 5 years. “As İHD, we will follow-up on the issue of punishing law enforcement officers who commit violence,” said İşçi.
Youth organizations have announced that they will file a criminal complaint against the police attack they have experienced.
