On Saturday 18th July, Kurdish Solidarity Cymru took part in an international commemoration and celebration of the Rojava revolution in Cardiff city centre. With much of the focus on statues of patriarchy being removed from all around the world, the KSC dressed up a statue called “Woman and boy” in Kurdish colours.
The statue, which is located conveniently near a Tui shop, drew the positive attention of passers-by, creating a conversation about the struggle for Kurdish autonomy. The people were informed about the crimes of Turkey and the #BoycottTurkey campaign.
A member of the KSC, reading a powerful speech, emphasised “For too long in this so-called democratic country, it has been difficult to break the wall of silence that surrounds any news of Kurdistan.”
