Every three months a new Xwebûn magazine is published. The edition for the months of August, September and October will focus on culture. The committee of Xwebûn magazine publishes with a high moral with the motto: “Our culture is our identity“.
They rate this edition as follows:
“It has always been the woman who embodies culture, passes it on and creates life.
From generation to generation she passes on culture and thus preserves it. For it is culture that creates the identity of a society. That is why patriarchy has women as its main target. In order to create a society without culture, which lives according to the values of the system, it must first destroy the identity of a society. This mentality of destruction has been used by the system since the time of the Neolithic Age until today. Especially the Kurdish culture has experienced many attacks.
They tried to ban our language, our colours, our customs and our songs. Everything Kurdish was started to be put in a negative light, forbidden or concealed. A sense of shame for one’s own identity was to arise, which was to extend over generations.
In the sense of the system, a cultureless society should be created, which should be equal to a dead, alienated society. So that it can gradually build its culture of rape, in which women in particular are disfigured.
Without culture, we would be people without identity today. A society without culture is easier for the system to control. No language, no homeland, no dances, no customs, no clothing, no food to refer to. But all these are little pieces of the puzzle that make up our identity.
For this reason, adhere to your own culture, resistance. Kurdish culture is as colourful and diverse as Kurdistan itself. Every Kurdish costume that is worn, every Kurdish folk dance that is danced, every Kurdish dialect that is spoken and sung is an act of resistance. Resistance against this decades of oppression and assimilation. Especially for us Kurdish young women, living out our culture is a revolutionary act of resistance.
Therefore, we want to dedicate this edition to culture and women.”
