MELIPILLA, CHILE
A 21-year-old man died in Melipilla as a result of shots that, according to police sources, were allegedly fired from a group of demonstrators and were aimed at uniformed police. The incident occurred in the context of demonstrations against the Chilean Government’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic.
The victim was taken in a taxi to the Emergency Service of the local hospital, where his death was confirmed due to a ballistic impact during the journey.
The Chilean government is using all its oppressive power to prevent the demonstrations that have been taking place over the country for the past 6 months.
During this period of popular uprising, more than 300 people lost their sight because of shots fired at rocks, causing pieces of the rock to break off and take effect as shrapnel. In this way the Chilean government is indirectly wounding and killing protestors.
The official figure points to two dozen dead – but protesters say there are more as millions of Chileans took to the streets against neoliberalism and capitalism.
In addition to the Melipilla demonstrations, serious incidents have been recorded in the communes of Estación Central, specifically in Villa Francia, and in Peñalolén. People have taken to the streets to fight the fascist Chilean police.
