Two days of global action have been organised to celebrate and defend the Revolution in Kurdistan by #WomenDefendRojava, #RiseUp4Rojava and #MakeRojavaGreenAgain.
The organisations made a joint call for action in London, in Trafalgar Square on Sunday 19 at 2 pm for those “who believe in another possible world” on the eighth anniversary of the Rojava Revolution.
The organisers of the London rally wrote in their appeal:
“In recent months, the fascist Turkish state has once more expanded its attacks, invasions and occupations across different parts of Kurdistan. Even as the Covid-19 crisis has spread across the region there have been arrests and raids in the Kurdish regions of Turkey, targeted drone strikes of women activists and shelling of villages in North-East Syria/Rojava, and a massively expanded invasion and occupation of northern Iraq.
All this violence has one goal: to destroy the women- and youth-led revolution taking place across Kurdistan, and especially in Rojava.
This revolution is building a new society based on real democracy, women’s liberation, social ecology and a cooperative economy, a model not only for Kurdistan and the wider region, but the whole world.”
The organisers added:
“In the face of the Turkish state’s fascist and genocidal assault, we will defend the revolution by celebrating its achievements with joy and solidarity, the values building a new society in Kurdistan, and which we know can build a free life everywhere.
There will be speakers from the Kurdish and Turkish communities, internationalists and social movements in solidarity with the liberation struggle in Kurdistan, as well as music, socially distanced Kurdish dancing and banners. We encourage people to make their own mini banners and art, and to come wearing Kurdish flowered scarves if they have them.”
