A protest near the Christopher Columbus statue in Chicago’s Grant Park turned into a riot after the police attempted to disperse the crowd through violence. The protesters responded to the aggressors with self-defence.
A total of 18 police officers were injured at the scene, according to police statments. Some required treatment at hospitals.
An injured woman was seen with a bandaged head while being prepared to be transported to a hospital as police officers threw objects at the crowd.
