Lawyer Ezgi Önalan was battered by Turkish police and detained after attempting to see her clients who were taken into custody during a police intervention against the commemoration of the Suruç Massacre. Ezgi said she will file a criminal complaint against the battery.
Four lawyers were detained by police during a commemoration organised for the 33 young people who were killed by the terrorist Turkish government in Suruç. Ezgi Önalan who is one of these four lawyers explained what happened:
‘WE WERE BEATEN AND DETAINED BY THE POLICE’
Lawyer Ezgi Önalan who stated that they went to the police station to see their client with Lawyer Gökhan Soysal, and they were beaten and taken into custody by the police at the station, said two more lawyers were also beaten and taken into custody with them.
Stating that they were not able to see their clients because they were being held in another room, she explained that they were released late last night. Önalan told Mesopotamya Agency: “I couldn’t see my clients. But our colleagues who were able to see them said that they were battered too.”
Stating that they have bruises and scars on their bodies, Önalan told that they will file a criminal complaint. Önalan called for solidarity during a time when attacks against defense intensified.
