BEHDİNAN, SOUTHERN KURDISTAN

The PKK Culture and Art Committee commemorated the 33 people who were burned down in Madımak Hotel on 2 July 1993 for being Alevi.

The Committee’s statement is as follows:

“On 2 July 1993, the colonialist, fascist Turkish state burned 33 of our people, including intellectuals and artists, at the Sivas Madımak hotel. We curse those who carried out this inhuman provocation and massacre. We commemorate the people who lost their lives with respect and gratitude and promise to revive their longing for freedom in our struggle.

We know this massacring, genocidal mentality closely. This extremist, sectarian, racist, dark mindset has always been an enemy to the intellectuals and artists representing the light, the pioneers and representatives of society, and it does not hesitate to eliminate them by massacres when it finds an opportunity.

From Mazdek-Hürrem to Babek, Hallacı Mansur to Sheikh Bedrettin, Pir Sultan Abdal to Hasret Gültekin, Apê Musa to Atakan, Helmet and Kasim Engin, they have been subjected to massacre along side many other socialist, egalitarian, communal, and intellectual artists who did not bow to oppression. This revolutionary, democratic line has never been and will never be finished.

While the AKP-MHP fascist government, the representative of Muaviye, Yavuz Selim,  İtaat and Terakki of our day, imposes genocide on the Kurdish People today, it is hitting full force with all kinds of pressure and massacre against all anti-system forces.

We will decisively continue our revolutionary struggle until we destroy this aggressive fascist mentality which is devoid of morality to an extent where it attacks even gravestones, one of the most fundamental values of society.

We will never bow to oppression and genocidal attacks, we will be the voice of our society in our struggle for culture and art, and we will revive those killed in the Sivas massacre with victory. The reign of the massaring, genocidal mentality will be destroyed, and social powers will gain culture, faith and all its colors. ”
