The PAJK (Kurdistan Women’s Freedom Movement) Coordination made a written statement on the occasion of the anniversary of the Rojava Revolution.
The PAJK statement is as follows:
“While peoples in many parts of the world are newly going through a period of taking to the streets for freedom, democracy and justice, the peoples of Northern Syria have been on the streets to demand their rights since 2011.
When the dates showed July 19, 2012, the accumulation of people’s longing for status, freedom and democratic rights, turned into a new social institution. Starting from Kobanê on July 19, 2012, it turned into a revolution that affected all the cities of Northern Syria from there.
We commemorate all the martyrs of the Rojava revolution with respect and gratitude; Arin Mîrkan, Legerîn, Zîn Kobanê, Hevrîn Xelef, Anna Campbell, Yade Aqîda, Zehra Berkel are the creators of the Rojava Revolution, which is a great breakthrough for the region and for the democratization of Syria.
We respectfully greet all the peoples of the region that created shields from their bodies in the name of defending this revolution. We celebrate the Rojava Revolution on this basis.
Capitalist modernist powers have never stopped presenting the Middle East land, the cradle of humanity, as an anti-democratic, the place of female slavery, the center of injustice, the home of ignorance. They extorted the value of women’s freedom, justice and ecological economy by turning these values upside down. As a result of this theft, which was combined with the authoritative desires of man, the region was emptied from all its values and faced with a great collapse of humanity.
Despite all this destruction, our Leadership tried to re-engage the Kurdish freedom struggle and the freedom struggle of Kurdish women in these lands. Rojava has become one of the important centers of this change. With 20 years of effort by our leadership, women’s freedom, ecological awareness and democratic organization started to organize in Rojava as a cultural approach.
The Rojava Revolution, which took place in Kobanê on July 19, was built on this legacy. One of the main determinants of the Rojava Revolution as the women’s revolution is that it has achieved equal representation in all living spaces by basing itself on the paradigm of our Leadership.
One of the main reasons for the central hegemony and the gangs fed by the Turkish state to target the Rojava Revolution is because of the mission it gives to the woman. It has not escaped the attention of central hegemony, that Rojava is bringing the economy together with ecology, staying away from industrialism, creating justice for the people themselves, improving education so it truly educates again, and not transferring defense to any other power.
This was the main rationale for any attack by any force linked to El Nusra, ISIS, the Turkish state, or central hegemony. Despite these contradictions, young people and women from many centers of the world participated in the Rojava Revolution. These are exactly the reasons for their participation. To defend the Rojava Revolution, young people and women shielded and defended with their bodies. Those who could not attend wanted this revolution to succeed.
Kobanê, the starting place of the Rojava Revolution, has been one of the deepest desires of the Turkish state. The Turkish state wanted to leave the revolution breathless in its birthplace. Erdogan said “Kobenê will fall any moment” and expressed how much joint business they have with ISIS in their own language.
Despite Erdogan’s approach, thousands of people from Northern Kurdistan, Eastern Kurdistan, and Southern Kurdistan have crossed borders to protect the revolution. Dozens of young people and women from Europe, America, Australia, Asia flocked to the land of Rojava, where their dream of freedom flourished. After great resistance, Kobanê survived and the Rojava Revolution showed to its friends and enemies that it could survive at its own will.
The Rojava Model
The Rojava Women’s Revolution is on track to become an important model for the Middle Eastern countries. Each country has been inspired by women’s work in defense, law, education, health, politics and many more. In order to democratize the region, efforts have been made to reach these criteria. The organizedness of society is considered to correlate with how organized the woman is.
The Rojava Revolution maintains its existence as an important model for both the Middle East and the world as well as the 21st century in the organization of the democratic confederal system on its path with the slogan of “free woman free society”. But it is still facing daily attacks by fascist states like the Turkish state.
The Turkish state, which sees the existence of Kurds, women and the peoples of the region as a danger for its fascist authority, wants to attack this revolution to destroy Kurdish gains. The peoples of Rojava and Northern Syria have formed a big line of defense with their attitude and the support of the peoples of the world. It can be seen that while the Rojava Revolution stands on the side of peoples, women, nature, ecological economy, justice, free life rights; the Turkish state is fighting against the Rojava Revolution by standing on the side of the evil, the slavery of women, the massacre of nature, the extortion economy, injustice and the lack of right to a free life.
Women who are struggling for women’s freedom all over the world support the freedom struggle in Rojava. We believe that this great revolution has brought a new phase in the world of women’s struggle. As part of the Free Women’s Party, we celebrate the Rojava women’s revolution once again. ”
