On June 30, Kongra Star published a new dossier named ‘Women under Turkish occupation, in which the women’s organisation documents femicide and gender-based violence which are systematic practices of the Turkish state in occupied Afrin.
The dossier documents violence against women in Afrin, where murder and violence rates against women in Turkey-occupied areas are concerning compared to those which are under the administration of the Autonomous Administration.
Since Turkey attacked and occupied the north-western region of Syria at the beginning of 2018, people, especially women, have repeatedly been subjected to abductions and violence, including in particular sexual violence and murder. This violence in general and the gender violence are consequences of the occupation and the mentality of the Turkish state and its jihadist groups.
