CENTRAL NEWS

Hacktivist group Anonymous called for freedom for all political prisoners in Turkey, initiating a Twitter storm after posting the following:

Freedom for Selahattin Demirtaş, Freedom for all political prisoners in Turkey #TwitterKurds #Anonymous

Anonymous is a decentralized, international hacktivist and anarchist movement that is widely known for its various cyber attacks against several governments, government institutions and government agencies, corporations, and the Church of Scientology.

Anonymous has been vocal of its support for Kurds through its accounts, speaking out against the Erdogan regime. Just yesterday, the group reacted to Erdogan’s attempts to ban social media platforms such as Twitter and YouTube in Turkey:

Erdogan runs the government like his own company, owns basically all mainstream media channels, puts anyone who questions his authority into jail. But he will never be able to control social media platforms or the internet. #ErdoganOffTwitter

In 2015, Anonymous shared a message addressed to Erdogan threatening to continue to expand attacks if he continues to support ISIS.
