The KCK Executive Council Co-Presidency reacted to the closure of the investigation into the murder of former Swedish Prime Minister Olof Palme, who was murdered in 1986.
KCK noted that the closure of the file is a “degrading approach” for the Swedish people and constitutes a great injustice and disrespect towards the Kurds.
The KCK statement is as follows:
“It was announced that the investigation and trial file of Swedish Prime Minister Olof Palme, who was murdered in 1986, was closed. Thus, he took his place in history as an unresolved murder case. Of course, this is a document of shame. The ambiguity around the perpetrators of this murder will always be remembered as a degrading and traumatic situation for the people of Sweden. The real perpetrators of this murder were concealed, and the file was eventually closed.
The PKK was charged immediately after the Olof Palme murder was committed. The PKK was followed. It has been turned into a campaign against the PKK all over the world. Through this event, it was tried to create the perception that the PKK is a terrorist organization that targets democratic and good people. This directional campaign was partly successful. Not only the PKK, but all Kurds were thrown under the bus. Thus, great damage was done to the freedom struggle of the Kurdish people.
Why did they target the PKK?
Olof Palme was a social democrat, a politician with the highest democratic and humanist approach and was appreciated by societies. Such a politician was considered dangerous by the NATO Gladio at a time when the last battles of the cold war took place. Because at that time, he was a moderate politician who had relations with various countries and political leaders who were the targets of NATO. This policy was seen and targeted by the NATO Gladio as a factor which was weakening the struggle against real socialism.
The PKK was accused of committing this murder because the PKK initiated a national liberation struggle against Turkey, NATO’s most forefront outpost against the Soviet Union. To stop the weakening of the frontal outposts, Turkey, an attitude was taken against the PKK.
In order to prevent the legitimacy and development of the struggle initiated by the PKK, this murder was committed intending to demolish the PKK with Palme. With this murder, NATO Gladio aimed to achieve several goals together.
NATO committed the murder
At the time, NATO’s Gladio was organized among the intelligence agencies of all NATO members at the time. Palme’s murder was also organized and carried out by Gladio units within the Swedish intelligence agency. Although this claim has been raised several times, it has not been addressed. It was reflected as if it was always being researched, essentially a distraction was made to close this file. Finally, the file was closed.
The closure of this file is a degrading approach, primarily for the Swedish people, their democrats and socialists. Failure to enlighten the murder of the Swedish people’s most beloved prime minister is a disrespect against the will of the people.
Swedish people and democrats should not accept such a deception; they should take action and take the necessary steps to clarify this murder. The uncertainty relating to the murderers of such a person is unfair to politicians of this character; it means not showing them the required solidarity. We believe that democratic forces in Europe, especially the people of Sweden, will not accept this situation and will be followers of this case.
Injustice to the Kurds
Such a closure of this case is a great injustice and disrespect for the Kurdish people. Because of this murder, the Kurdish people have been thrown under the bus for years. The Kurdish people and the murderers were recalled as one. Our people suffered great wear and tear, and the struggle for freedom was also damaged. The perception created after the Palme murder also played an important role in the inclusion of the PKK in the list of terrorist organizations. It has become normal to declare the PKK a terrorist. In this case, the Swedish state had a big role in trying to put Palme’s murder on the PKK.
Apology to the Kurdish people and the PKK
Therefore, this case cannot be closed without an apology to the Kurdish people and the PKK! The most appropriate apology to the Kurdish people and the PKK would be to reveal how the Kurdish people and the freedom struggle were harmed.
There can be no heavier crime than harming a people’s struggle for freedom and throwing them under a bus as a murder suspect.
No apology can recover the losses of the Kurdish people. However, it is the necessity of being a human being and a democrat, to get rid of the historic blame that was thrown at the Kurdish people and show that they have been harmed.
Leaving a people in the grasp of genocide and harming their struggle for freedom under such an accusation is as heavy as committing the crime of genocide.
The Swedish state must officially apologize, seeing what level of evil it has done, harming the public by blaming the Palme murder on the PKK. They must apologize, seeing how burdensome it is to create the perception that a Kurdish-friendly politician was killed by the Kurds.
We will try to resolve his murder
We curse Olof Palme’s murder again, and we promise that we will respond to his characteristic of being a friend of the Kurds by struggling to resolve his murder. As the Kurdish people, we will chase this murder, we will continue our struggle until it is exposed.
Like all the murders and crimes of Gladio, why and how this murder occurred will be revealed. These efforts and struggles are also part of humanity’s struggle for freedom and democracy. The free and democratic life of humanity cannot be accomplished until these murders have been enlightened and those responsible have been historically prosecuted by the conscience of the peoples.
Calls on the Swedish people, the Kurdish people, and democrats to continue their efforts to expose those responsible for this murder without interruption; We bow with respect to the democratic and humanist personality of Olof Palme. “
