Duran Kalkan, a member of the PKK Executive Committee, spoke on the martyrdom of Kasim Engin, a member of the PKK Central Committee who devoted 35 years to the liberation of Kurdistan and was crowned with martyrdom on May 27 in Bradost.
Duran Kalkan indicated: “I believe that the processes to follow will be developed as a revenge move of Kasim Engin. All youth and women, our patriotic people and friends, all revolutionary democratic powers, and especially our party in the leadership of the guerrilla, will definitely destroy the AKP-MHP fascism and throw it in the trash basket of history, to bring success to success. With such a move, fascism will be destroyed, we will win, our people will win. ”
OUR PAIN AND FURY IS BIG
“Our Party has lost PKK’s Central Committee Member, KCK Executive Council Member and HPG Commander, comrade Kasim Engin to a fascist, genocidal, cowardly attack by the enemy. Undoubtedly as a movement and as a people our pain and fury is big. Firstly I share the pain of all our comrades, families of our martyrs, our patriotic people, and especially the Leader Apo.
The memory of Kasım Engin comrade will always live, his goals will definitely be achieved. This sacrificial militant, who has dedicated his life to the freedom of the Kurdish people and humanity, must be understood in his own right.
Everyone who knows Comrade Kasim knows very well that he was a sacrificial militant who devoted his life to the struggle for freedom. He was a freedom fighter and guerrilla commander. He was a peoples’ leader, he was a propagandist and agitator, he was an artist, he was an accomplished athlete. He was a revolutionary militant who was always ready to fulfill any task.”
35 YEARS OF CONSCIOUS LIFE
“At a young age, they took [Kasim and his family] away from their country and people and took them to Europe. He had to go into exile with his family. However, after he met the thoughts of freedom of Leader Apo, comrade Kasım Engin pushed all the material means of slavery of the capitalist modernist system aside and rushed to his country waiting for liberation at a young age.
He met Leader Apo, the freedom struggle, the guerrilla, the Kurdish people and the mountains of Kurdistan. He set foot on the four pieces of Kurdistan’s soil, from Amanos to Botan, from Zagros to Behdinan, from Rojava to Rojhilat. To follow the path of Berivan; He was able to become the companion of Erdal, Hüseyin Çelebiler, Nucan, Şêxo.
With a work pace of more than 20 hours every day, he was a true follower of the style and pace put forward by Leader Apo. He never stopped, he was never tired, never bored; he never said ‘I can’t do it’. No difficulties and obstacles could keep comrade Kasim Engin from the freedom case and struggle for a moment. He has always had a smile on his face, hope in his mind and a belief in freedom in his heart. No difficulties and obstacles prevented him from participating in the struggle for freedom and democracy stronger, fighting more effectively.
Thus, he devoted all his life 35 years of his conscious life to the freedom struggle of the Kurdish people, the democratization of the peoples of the Middle East and the liberation of humanity.”
HE WAS LIKE AN ARMY ALONE
“He was able to do all the work that a group could do with great effort, alone with his productivity, creativity and pace. He was like an army alone. He fought courageously with great morale and enthusiasm wherever he was found to be. He was the spirit, consciousness and will of developing revolutionary moves against the Imrali isolation, the AKP-MHP fascism, and any cooperative reactionary.
On this basis, he has succeeded in becoming an Apoist militant, a comrade of the heroic martyrs, and the freedom leader of the Kurdish people.”
LEADER OF REVENGE
“The fascist, colonial, genocidal forces succeeded in attacking such a great revolutionary comrade, a freedom fighter, a leader of the people, an Apoist militant and a valuable veteran of our party.
With this, they aim to destroy and liquidate our party leadership, to remove our people from the struggle for freedom and democracy, and to achieve the Kurdish genocide. They believe they will do this, but they should know very well; they are wrong, they are very wrong. Under the leadership of Comrade Kasım Engin, our people, guerrilla, women and youth movement united on the Apoist line.
It is certain that our united people, our guerrilla, our women and youth movements will destroy the fascist genocidal system with the revolutionary vengeance move developed by all revolutionary, democratic forces.
Comrade Kasım will lead such a move of freedom and revolutionary vengeance that this will surpass his struggles in practice before his martyrdom. He will be the spirit, will, consciousness, claim and director of such a move.”

“Comrade Kasım Engin accomplished his revolutionary duties with a 35-year long march of freedom. He always kept the flag of freedom and democracy high and produced great values. This blessed path, the great struggle, the flag of freedom, is ours; guerrilla forces have been entrusted to women, youth, workers, laborers, patriots, peoples and humanity.
May you sleep comfortably; This flag, which he beared with honor, will always be carried high. It will always be raised higher. “Comrade Kasım Engin will be avenged much more strongly by such a struggle. The persecutors of the fascist genocidal killers, will be held accountable for this bloodshed: they paid yesterday, they will pay today.
All our Freedom Movement and our people, especially our hero guerrilla forces, will serve the most lethal blows to the fascist genocidal mentality and politics in the line of Leader Apo and in the footsteps of heroic martyrs.”
