Hundreds of people who came together per an action call made by SDAJ (Socialist German Workers Youth) protested the increasing police violence, racism and fascism in the city of Kassel in Germany. Tevgera Ciwanên Şoreşger (Revolutionary Youth Movement) also supported the action.
Hundreds of anti-racist and anti-fascist activists gathered in Kassel’s König square under the “Black Lives Matter” initiative at 17:00. Activists frequently chanted the slogans “Black Lives Matter” and “No Justice No Peace”.
Speeches about racism and police violence were also made in the action. Speaking on behalf of the Arrangement Committee, Lewend made an assessment of extreme racism. Stating that the racist attack against George Floyd by the police caused great reactions all over the world, Lewend, a member of the organizing committee, said, “Such racist attacks do not only take place in the USA, but also beneath our noses. In 2018, a 19-year-old refugee was attacked by a police officer in Fulda.”
At the end of his speech, Lewend urged to fight racism and right-wing everywhere.
Tevgera Ciwanên Şoreşger activists also made a speech during the action, explaining the increasing, systematic racism of the fascist Turkish state against the Kurdish population. Attention was also drawn to the genocide and assimilation policies of the fascist Turkish state across greater Kurdistan. The activists commemorated Barış Çakan who was murdered for listening to Kurdish music.
The TCŞ spokesperson added, “As Kurdish youth, we are with you today. We share the same feeling and we are angry. We are angry at the murderers. We are angry at those who produce fascist and racist practices. We are angry at those who watch everything and remain silent. We are angry at those who protect the murderers. ”
Noting that the murderers should be held accountable before a judiciary, the spokesperson said, “End your silence and do not allow racism in any area. To resist is to live.”
During the two-hour action, performances were also displayed. The action ended with the slogan of “Long Live Internationalist Solidarity”.
