The International Workers’ Day of Unity, Struggle and Solidarity was celebrated this year in smaller numbers in Basel, Stuttgart, Koln, Bielefeld and Toulhouse due to the intensive measures taken against the coronavirus outbreak.
BASEL
While only 1000 people attended the march in Basel, Switzerland, there was enthusiasm surrounding it.
The march, which started from Dreirosenbrücke at noon, was attended by activists carrying posters of People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan, PKK flags and ‘Nehêle’ banners. Throughout the march, young people chanted slogans such as “Long live Kurdistan Workers Party”, “Long live Rojava resistance”, “Long live May 1” and “Bijî Serok APO”.
STUTTGART
The march in which Tevgera Ciwanên Şoreşger (Revolutionary Youth Movement) and Jinên Ciwan ên Azad (Young Free Women) activists participated started at Marktplatz at 13:30.
While the youth participated in the march with the posters of the People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan, the YPG-YPJ and TCŞ flags and pennants, the enthusiasm of the youth attracted attention.
During the march led by TCŞ and JCA, colorful images were also reflected in the press. Colorful smokeflares were used in the march with slogans and marches.
A banner reading “Stuttgart Apoist Youth” was hung on a building along the route of the march. The banner exhibited a silhouette of the People’s Leader Abdullah Ocalan and wrote “Long live the revolutionary May Day.”
KOLN
May Day celebrations were held in 12 different places in Cologne, with masses being dispersed by fascist police amid the pandemic chaos.
Hundreds of people gathered at the celebration in Heumarkt, where Tevgera Ciwanên Şoreşger and Jinên Ciwan ên Azad activists also attended. Sources local to the region confirmed that the celebration was attended by German institutions and Turkish youth.
Reading the explanation on behalf of TCŞ, Servan Botan explained that the capitalist system exploits the working people in order to survive. “We do not expect the system to collapse on its own. We have a fair, democratic and free life model against capitalist modernity. Our alternative model to the system is Democratic Confederalism developed by People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan. ”
TOULHOUSE
Tevgera Ciwanên Şoreşger activists who came together in Toulouse, France, celebrated May 1 and protested the Turkish state’s invasion plans, the collaborative and betrayal line of the KDP in Kurdistan.
Kurdish youths who closed the highway in traffic for the purpose of celebrating the 1 May Workers’ and Labourers’ Day of Unity, Struggle and Solidarity opened a banner saying “Long live May 1”.
In addition, the fascist occupation plans of the Turkish state and the collaborative betrayal line of the KDP were protested.
The youth opened banners saying “Killer Erdogan” “KDP = AKP- death to betrayal” and “don’t stay calm against the invasion attacks in Southern Kurdistan.”
BIELEFELD
Protesters gathered in front of the Bielefeld Hauptbahnhof at 15:00, after a speech on the meaning and importance of the day and marched to central Bielefeld.
The celebration, which brought together different left and socialist organizations as well as political prisoners from prisons in Turkey and Kurdistan, and those in solidarity with Rojava and Mexmûr camp.
The Bielefeld Democratic Kurdish Community Center, a youth and student movement in which many organizations participated with their flags; TCŞ, JCA, YXK, JXK, left youth, Antifa representatives, Revolutionary Youth (RJ), Dergeha Elewiyan OWL and Power Union participated.
