Sharing that no preventative measures were taken against the coronavirus in Şakran Women’s Closed Prison, Şehriban Çoban stated that the tests of 2 doctors, 2 prisoners and 12 guards has come back positive. All of those infected were put into quarantine.
Şehriban Çoban, who is being detained in the Şakran Women’s Closed Prison in the Aliağa district of İzmir, informed her mother Nafiye Çoban about the violations of rights during her weekly phone call allowance on 10 April.
Being detained in the prison for the past 2.5 years, Şehriban disclosed that 20 prisoners are being kept in 15-person wards and that not enough cleaning supplies were provided.
Stating that they have an inmate over the age of 70, a baby and a prisoner with cancer, Şehriban said that the sick prisoners were never taken to the hospital and that they did not get any results after pushing the prison administration for disinfectant.
Stating that the guards raided the wards under the name of “searching” every 15 days, Şehriban disclosed that prisoners are routinely exposed to insults. Stating that the wards neighbouring hers have been turned into quarantine wards, Şehriban shared that the virus tests of 2 prison doctors, 2 prisoners and 12 guards was positive, Şehriban emphasized that both doctors and guards contacted the prisoners.
