The remnants of HPG Gerilla Egîd İpek (Kemal Berxwedan), who was martyred on May 23, 2017 on Xelasor Hill in the center of Dersim, was delivered to his family after years of struggle through a cargo company.
The invading Turkish state refused to hand the corpse of Martyr Egîd to his family for 3 years, until April 10 when the Martyrs family was called in to Amed Courthouse, where they were told to travel to a cargo station where they were handed a plastic box.
Martyr Egîd was burried in the Tizyan Neighborhood of the Artuklu district of Mêrdîn, in a ceremony which was militarily blockaded. Only three citizens were allowed to attend the ceremony, mother Halîse was not one of them.
Mother Halîse, who hosted Nuce Ciwan reporters at her house, explained that hero Egîd opened his eyes to the world in Amed in 1995. Egîd, who is originally from Qoser in Mêrdîn, emigrated to Amed because of the oppression and persecution policies of the invading Turkish state.
Martyr Egîd’s family emigrated from here to Istanbul due to the pressure of the invaders. Growing up in a patriotic environment, Egîd was one of 8 siblings.
Despite growing up in a foreign country, Egîd insisted on the lines and lives of the Egîd’s. In the school he went to, he carried himself in line with the meaning of his name wherever he was on his journey.
Before joining the ranks of the freedom guerrillas, Martyr Egîd was also involved in work related to the youth. After a while he saw that this was not enough anymore and joined the guerrillas of freedom in 2010.
On May 23 of 2017, Egîd was martyred together with a group of friends after an action against the invading Turkish soldiers on Xelasor Hill. 8 invading soldiers were killed in this action where a great blow was hit to the invading Turkish state. After long hours of conflict, Egîd joined the caravan of martyrs.
The body of Egîd, who fought until his last bullet, was captured by the invading Turkish state. And after that, a new chapter is opened in Mother Halîse’s story.
We were made familiar with Mother Halîse with the box in her hand. Egîd fought heroically and joined the caravan of martyrs and Mother Halîse embraced martyr Egîd with her head held high. The rest is for the Mother to tell:
“When Egîd was one year old, we emigrated to Istanbul. Egîd grew up there. He was a child loved by everyone, he was very cute in his childhood. He did not like to fight or swear at all. Whenever he was hit in the streets, he did not respond. One day he fought with a young man whose nose bled. Egîd took the young man to the hospital. He really took his name.
He did not get angry no matter what, instead he would resist.
He was very attached to his friends. At school, his teacher and his friends loved him very much but he was never accepted by the fascists.
Egid was gone. We hadn’t heard from him for a long time. Until he was martyred. We have been waiting for his funeral since 2017. They were constantly sending us to other places. From Dersim to Istanbul, to Amed. But we never gave up. Lastly, we were called into PTT (Cargo company) and we were given a box.
In any case, no such thing has been seen in history. We do not accept this situation. Nobody should accept it.
We took our funeral. With only 5 people, we buried our bones. They came as an army. They blocked us and did
not allow anyone to come. We still had a ceremony with slogans and prayers. Under no circumstances do we accept this situation and the Kurdish people should not either.
They want to scare us but whatever they do we are not scared. Egîd’s fight is holy. He went on a holy path. Not everyone is worthy of this path. I am honoured by it. My Egîd is gone, but now i have thousands of Egîd’s. In the person of Egîd, an oppression is being implemented against the Kurdish people, they must be wary. This path is a holy path, and we will not turn back from it.”
