COLEMERG, NORTHERN KURDISTAN

Coronavirus continues to infest around the world with one of the most affected countries being Turkey. With a total case number of 30,217 and a death toll of 649, it has become clear that the fascist Turkish state has taken very few precautions in Turkey and close to no precautions in northern Kurdistan, where it occupies.

In addition to the insufficient health system in Kurdish provinces, the AKP Government seems to be completely ignoring the region. While people in Kurdistan struggle with the pandemic, barely able to afford the few masks that are being sold at peak prices, the Turkish state carries out military operations in the region bringing more deaths.

Under the justification of these genocidal operations, the fascist AKP Government sends hundreds of soldiers to the border city of Colemêrg and its districts almost every day.

It has been reported that the soldiers who were deployed to Colemêrg’s central Gever, Şemzinan and Çelê districts were not held to health checks before travelling to the region.

According to ANF; It was claimed that some soldiers who were deployed to Colemêrg and its districts tested positive for the coronavirus. The fact that these soldiers remained in the same outpost as 200 other soldiers and travelled to city centres has caused uneasiness among the public in Hakkari.

The placement of the infected soldiers in dormitories and hotels in Gever caused panic and strong reactions.

Stating that the coronavirus positive soldiers and other uninfected soldiers remained in the same place for days, a member of the outpost stated that it was unacceptable to place these soldiers in hotels and dormitories in the city center: “The soldiers will spread this disease to the public. Because there is no precaution here. Most of the soldiers are young and will infect people without realizing the disease. The soldiers placed in the city center must be quarantined in their outpost as soon as possible.”
