The jihadist and racist government ignored 28-year-old Mustafa Kocak who had been on death-fast for 297 days just to be tried fairly. Today, on the first day of Ramadan, the terrorist Turkish state killed Mustafa.
Mustafa Koçak, who had been on the fast of death for 297 days requesting a “fair trial” in Şakran No 2 Type-T Closed Prison, reached martyrdom.
The Turkish state, led by the AKP-MHP-Ergenekon coalition, killed Mustafa Koçak after a fellow member of the Group Yorum, Helin Bölek, who had also initiated a death fast to be able to perform concerts freely.
The martyrdom of Koçak, who was sentenced to life imprisonment with the slander of a ‘secret witness’, was announced on the Twitter account of Halkın Hukuk Bürosu.
Halkın Hukuk Bürosu (The People’s Law Office) made the following statement regarding Koçak:
“Our client Mustafa Koçak was martyred on the 297th day of the death fast resistance. For the right to a fair trial, Mustafa walked to immortality by melting and resisting. Know that the state murdered Mustafa to not listen to a witness in court. We bow with respect in front of his memory. ”
All for a fair trial
Mustafa Koçak was on trial for the murder of Public Prosecutor Mehmet Selim Kiraz who was killed in the Istanbul Courthouse on 31 March 2015 in his office. Last year Mustafa was sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment.
Koçak went on a hunger strike after the sentence, demanding “a fair trial and independent court” and a trial for his torturers.
Koçak, who turned the hunger strike action into a death fast on his 93rd day, was forcibly intervened on the 255th day of his death fast in Şakran No. 2 Type-T Closed Prison. 73 IV drips were inserted into the body of Koçak, who was taken to the hospital and underwent medical intervention. The insertion and removal of these IV drips caused vascular injuries to Mustafa.
Tortured for 5 days
Koçak was taken to Type-F Closed Prison in Kirklar on 12 March. His lawyer Ezgi Çakır stated that her client was tortured for 5 days while he was being held in hospital.
Stating that they requested that Mustafa be referred to the Forensic Medicine Institute (ATK) in order to receive a report of torture after the incident, Lawyer Çakır said that on April 14, “An alternative report was prepared with the findings from the ATK and the Izmir Bar Association.
In the report, it was determined that the forced intervention against our client was classified as torture according to the criteria of the World Health Organization. ”
Stating that her client was wanted to be taken to the hospital for the last two weeks, but the reason for this was not shared with them, Çakır added that for Mustafa to be taken to hospital, firstly Mustafa needs to know why he is being taken and secondly his legal representative must be informed. The lawyer emphasised that the conditions of the hospital were not suitable for Mustafa.
‘They left me in my faeces’
Her older sister Sevgül Koçak stated that Mustafa did not want to go to the doctor after the forced intervention. She quoted Mustafa as saying, “I am scared, they are torturing me. They didn’t take me out of bed for 5 days. They left me in my faeces.”
Sevgül emphasised, “He can’t say more because he’s still under pressure from forced intervention. He does not want to experience trauma again. He has not healed since the trauma, he is afraid of even the words ‘doctor’ and ‘hospital’. ”
Noting that they appealed to the prison and persuaded Mustafa to go to hospital because of the deterioration of his health condition, Sevgül stated that this did not happen due to the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Sister Koçak informed that the prison administration had told her brother: “We will take you to the hospital, but there is a pandemic. We do not accept responsibility if anything happens. You will stay in quarantine for 14 days when you come and go.”
Saying that her brother could not fulfill his needs alone after what was done to him, his sister said, “Mustafa’s being in quarantine for 14 days alone is his death.”
He couldn’t sleep anymore
Expressing that they could only contact Mustafa through phone calls, Sevgül explained that he was having a hard time and could not sleep anymore because of his pains.
“He said he could feel a burning sensation all over his body, he could not touch it. He could not walk, and could not feel his arms and legs,” Sevgül said.
Sevgül quoted her last conversation with Mustafa; “I have fallen below 30 kilos. As much as a water bottle is left of me. I am willing to suffer all of this pain so that nobody will be injured again. This is our challenge.”
His parents were waiting at the door
Koçak’s family had been waiting in front of the prison since 12 March to be able to see him. Father Hasan Koçak stated that his son was unable to walk. “My son has forgotten to walk now, his feet are swollen, he is wearing size 40 slippers and his shoe size is 46. He stated that his teeth were shaking and his pains became more and more severe every day.
As a family, we are worried. Because, he is not allowed to meet lawyers in any way, neither by phone nor in close view. Prison officials want to take him to the hospital, but Mustafa refuses to go to the hospital without his lawyer. ”
My son wants to live
Father Koçak had spoken on Mustafa’s situation prior to his martyrdom, pointing out that his son wants to live, Koçak added:
“Mustafa is left to die only because of a supposed witness. We also wait in front of the prison and help him feel that we are with him. We do not ask for charity from anyone. If there is justice, let him be tried again, we want justice. My son has only one request, and he is to be tried again, but no one understands it.”
He couldn’t breathe anymore
Koçak’s older sister Ayşe Koçak made a statement about her phone conversation with her brother Koçak on her social media account yesterday evening. Stating that her brother Koçak is not in good health, sister Koçak said:
“Unfortunately, the phone call we made with Koçak was not completed. My brother said on the phone that he could no longer breathe and speak. As you may have guessed, we hear his voice for 10 minutes, two days a week. We can’t even hear this much any more.
As his family, we call the prison but they say they will not inform us or the lawyers. Mustafa is our brother, our family. We will not leave him to you. You want him to die quietly there. I ask the Ministry of Justice; Are you waiting for Mustafa to die? Why don’t you finalize this file? Isn’t it your job to provide justice, who do you serve? Instead you need to serve justice, law and humanity. Pull your dirty hands from my brother, my family and people. Stop judging innocent people innocently and enough, hear Mustafas voice.”
Martyrdom
Sometime after this sister’s cry, the People’s Law Office announced the death of Koçak. Mustafa Koçak walked to immortality by melting and resisting cell by cell for the right to a fair trial.
