Duran Kalkan, Member of the PKK Executive Committee, evaluated that the KDP’s deployment of peshmerga to Qandil’s Zînî Wertê area is a warrant for war: “We will not be responsible for this. The PKK will not accept this. ”
Speaking to Medya Haber television, Duran Kalkan said, “The USA and TR demands, the KDP implements. Attacking the PKK with the support of the USA and the TR has no relation with neither Kurdishness nor liberation, nor the establishment of a Kurdish state.”
Kalkan pointed out that the Kurdish internal conflict is wanted to be aggravated. “In the direction of the demands of the US and TR, [the KDP] is fighting against the guerrillas of the Kurdistan freedom movement, the PKK, as an enemy. There is no other explanation, everyone must see it for what it is.
In other words, a war situation is arising, we are not responsible,” he said.
This is a justification for war
Kalkan evaluated KDP’s dispatchment of heavy weapons in Qandil’s Zînî Wertê strait as follows:
* “It is seen that the KDP is deploying a certain force to the Zînî Wertê strait and trying to establish a military base there. It has been like this for a while.
The excuse given is to prevent mobility because of the virus, but the truth has nothing to do with this. It is not an area on the border, but an inner area of Southern Kurdistan. It is a security point for Qandil.
* The TR also forced KDP to take steps to establish such new bases for Xinêre in the Bradost area together with the forces of TR. We warned [them] then too. This is a dangerous warrant for war, we said. We have taken a serious, clear stand. And it would have been. They did not proceed.
A conflictual situation has not developed for a year. In fact, in a sense, common sense prevailed. Now the situation for Wertê is similar, a continuation. It is the same danger.
* With the support from the USA and the Republic of Turkey, there is a military movement to support the attacks carried out by TR in the Bradost area, through Qandil.
It is not possible to understand this differently. This removes Qandil’s security. In this regard, our management also announced, what we said last spring for Bradost is also valid for Wertê. This is a war rationale, absolutely unacceptable.
*The USA and TR give the instructions, the KDP implements it. Attacking the PKK with the support of the USA and the TR has no relation with neither Kurdishness nor liberation, nor the establishment of a Kurdish state. This is simply to aggrevate the Kurdish internal conflict, with support from the US and the TR.

Is the PUK involved in this?
* We hope that this is aborted as soon as possible, as it was done in Bradost, otherwise it is not possible to accept this situation. Besides, KDP has nothing for this field. The field remained in the hands of guerrillas during the 2000 war 20 years ago. It was not an area in the hands of the KDP, it was in the hands of the PUK before.
Within the framework of the PKK relations with the PUK, the PKK also allowed a small PUK member peshmerga units to stay there for years. There was PUK peshmerga in the Bosphorus. Why did the KDP come, why did the PUK peshmerga not prevent [the KDP’s] military force from coming, this also does not make sense. Is it an advised fight? Is the PUK involved in this? This must be explained, it must be revealed.
Although [the area] remained under PKK guerrilla control for 20 years, a tight approach was not taken. The area was open to the KDP, the PUK and public movement. It even allowed PUKers to have a small peshmerga unit.
Nevertheless, it is provocation to bring such a fact to ‘as good as settled’ in the direction of the US-TR. Kurdish internal conflict is being encouraged. It is to become part of the destruction and liquidation plans initiated against the PKK.
Let everybody know
The PKK will not accept this, it will fight against it, it will face up to whatever the outcome may be, let everyone know.
All Kurdish patriots, intellectuals, and the people of southern Kurdistan should see that the fault does not lie with the PKK, an attack against the PKK was carried out. The deployment was not in vain. It’s an area under PKK control. It has nothing to do with the KDP. A military operation was launched in such a place.
An attack on the PKK to take over the most fundamental security area of the PKK. It will defend itself against this. No one should see fault in the PKK when it is time to defend.
We believe and hope that the society provides sensitivity, and the common sense shown in the KDP last year is also shown this year. If this is the case, it is good. But if it is not, we will do what we have to.”
