The 71st birthday of the Peoples’ Leader Abdullah Ocalan was celebrated locally in small groups this year due to the Coronavirus pandemic, rather than the traditional mass celebrations flaunted in every Kurdish city and especially in Riha’s Amara village where the Leader was born.
While the birth of the Peoples’ Leader represents an historical development in the revival and independence of the Kurdish people, the ideology of the Peoples’ Leader which was pyshicallised in the body of Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) carries great meaning.
In this universalised ideology, the long road to freedom was built not only for the Kurds, but for women, children, youth, the Middle East and North Africa region, spreading as far as Europe and even further to the rest of the globe. On this basis, the birth of the Peoples’ Leader means hope for the forgotten fractions of society.
