Over 5,000 of the ISIS terrorists captured by Syrian Democratic Forces in the liberation of the last foothold of the jihadist gang in Baxoz, Derazor, attempted to take the SDF members captive in the Heseke prison they were detained in. Failing to take anyone captive, the jihadists attempted to escape the prison after compromising the prison walls, it was released in a press statement by the SDF. The forces also shared that some jihadists were successful in their escape attempts.
“In regards to the problem which arose today, by placing blankets [over the cameras] the gangs demanded human rights organisations to come to the prison,” Rubar Hesen shared in relation to the surveillance footage shared by prison officials. Stating that the gang members then started a riot, breaking cameras, doors and finally walls, it was shared that some jihadists have escaped the prison.
In relation to the escapees, the representative for the coalition – ISIS prison relations shared, “whether the gangs have fled or whether they are in hiding it is unclear until sunrise.” The Representative informed that a floor of the prison is under the control of the jihadist gangs. It was also shared that the perimeters of the region are under strict blockade, that all the forces within the region are on alarm and that the wait would continue till day light.
