The PKK Executive Committee have shared a statement in relation to the Newroz new year. The message released by the PKK is as follows:
“As the Kurdish people and the peoples of the region, we are experiencing a new Newroz. Despite the severe problems and serious obstacles, Newroz fires are burning in every area, and Newroz, the oldest Day of Freedom in history, is celebrated with enthusiasm. With great hope, a new spring and a new year of Newroz are welcomed.
On the day of unity, resistance and freedom, Newroz is lived by our people and democratic forces in accordance with its historical meaning. In the New Newroz year, it is understood that the freedom resistance against all kinds of persecution will develop much stronger and more successfully with the spirit of Newroz.
On this basis, we congratulate the Newroz of all comrades, especially guerrilla forces, women and youth, our patriotic people, the peoples of the Middle East and democratic humanity, especially Leader Apo, and wish them all the best in their struggle for freedom in the new Newroz year.
We commemorate all our hero martyrs, starting with Haki Karer in the person of our great Newroz Martyrs Comrades Zekiye, Rahşan, Berivan, Ronahi, Sema, Sinan, Navdar and Serhat, and extending to Tekoshin Amanos, especially with the contemporary Kawa Mazlum Doğan, with respect, love and gratitude. We reiterate our promise to succeed and cherish memories. As the movement and the people, we state that we will fight stronger and achieve more in the new Newroz Year in the line of Leadership and Martyrs.
As it is known, Newroz is the oldest living Fest of Freedom in the history of humanity. The fire of Newroz, lit by Blacksmith Kawa, has been illuminating the path of humanity for 2632 years and continues to play its historical role as the ever-stronger awareness and will of freedom. Today, the historical victory of the Kurds, the mothers and ancestors of the Meds against the oppression of Dehak, is an inspiration to all peoples and oppressed. Just as thousands of years ago, Meds managed to break down the oppression of Dehak by uniting all the oppressed, today Kurds, who are their grandchildren, defeat ISIS al-Qaeda and AKP-MHP fascism with the resistance they have developed and save the peoples and oppressed.
In this direction, it is evident that one of the greatest revolutionary resistance in history has been experienced in the last Newroz year and that great victories with a lasting effect has been achieved. As a matter of fact, the last blow against DAESH, the Dehak of today, was struck before the 2019 Newroz and all peoples and humanity were given the good news that “ISIS’s territorial domination was terminated” in the 2019 Newroz.
While the revolutionary revenge resistance, which was developed in memory of our Newroz martyrs, caused fatal blows to the AKP-MHP fascism, there was a heavy defeat to the AKP-MHP fascism in the local elections of March 31, 23. The last Newroz year was a year in which the fascist-colonial mentality and politics that predicted the Kurdish genocide were severely defeated and the hopes of freedom became stronger than ever.
The new Newroz year is entered on the basis of these developments. The will of freedom, the great enthusiasm and resistance experienced by women in Kurdistan and around the world in the March 8 celebrations are now the basis of the Newroz celebrations. Although it is attempted to prevent such freedom peaks with a great disaster called the “Coronavirus epidemic”, our patriotic people led by women and youth celebrate the Newroz Freedom Festival, once again clearly demonstrating the will of free life by overcoming obstacles. It clearly demonstrates the claim of breaking isolation, destroying fascism and establishing democracy in all areas.
It is clear that in 2020 Newroz, the coronavirus obstacle is preventing or wanting to be used to prevent the massive development of our struggle for freedom, putting our free will out in millions in Newroz squares. Undoubtedly, our people and friends should take into account this disaster threatening all humanity in four parts of Kurdistan and abroad, and have an approach that will protect their existence and health. Such an attitude and the seriousness of the disaster can never be underestimated. However, it is also possible to overcome the obstacle and develop Newroz celebrations in appropriate ways. As a matter of fact, this is done, instead of gathering in Newroz squares, the front of every house, every street, every neighbourhood, every village, every mountain is turned into a Newroz square, making Newroz celebrations much more widespread and massive in this way.
Thus, the coronavirus obstacle caused by the capitalist order of modernity, which is the stage of cancerization of the power and state system, is effectively overcome. At this point, we believe that our patriotic people, especially women and young people, will show great will and creativity, and we invite everyone to this more common Newroz celebration, believing that this is the most meaningful Newroz celebration.
It is clear that, despite all kinds of earthquakes, avalanches, floods, coronaviruses, there is no decrease and weakening in fascist-genocidal attacks. Even the fascist-genocidal AKP-MHP administration increases the attacks and massacres by making use of these events. If it is noted, the Imrali torture and isolation system is further aggravated and even family and lawyer applications to learn the latest situation in Imrali are rejected. While many states have emptied the dungeons significantly due to the coronavirus, AKP-MHP does not leave a person out of the dungeons that it has filled with fascism.
Fascist pressure and terror are losing nothing, and the genocidal invasion attacks on Kurdistan’s Rojava and Basur parts continue. It has become evident that as long as revolutionary resistance does not counter the fascist and genocidal mentality and politics of the AKP-MHP, Turkey cannot be democratised, Kurdistan can not be free.
On this basis, Newroz is the beginning of a new historical resistance move. Our patriotic people and all revolutionary-democratic powers will overcome all kinds of obstacles and live Newroz according to its historical meaning and will develop the move to break the isolation, to destroy fascism and to establish democracy in all areas.
Such a resistance will be carried out with the spirit of resistance, March 8, and the spirit of national heroism, the spirit of Mazlum and Agit, and will surely succeed. As a result, the AKP-MHP fascism will be destroyed, the Imrali isolation will be torn down, and Leader Abdullah Öcalan will have free living and working conditions. This will free Kurdistan, and democratise Turkey and the Middle East.
On this basis, we celebrate the Newroz of everyone living in the spirit of Newroz, and everyone who is carrying out activities. We celebrate the Newroz of all four parts of Kurdistan and of our people abroad with the Newroz spirit, we call for a stronger organisation of national unity and the development of the resistance of freedom.
We call for the peoples of Turkey and the revolutionary-democratic forces to englarge their united revolution struggle against isolation and fascism to win democracy. We call on all the people of the Middle East and especially the oppressed to englarge and unite their struggle against the capitalist modernity system which produces great disasters such as the coronavirus.
