MÊRDÎN
While mass Newroz celebrations were cancelled due to the threat of – Coronavirus (Covid-19), Newroz celebrations, which are expected to be held on the balconies, windows and roofs of houses in Northern Kurdistan started at 20:20 this evening.
The first fire was burned in the rural Zorava neighbourhood of the Nisêbîn district of Mêrdîn and celebrations started. The first fire was lit on the other side of the occupation border in Qamishlo of Rojava, earlier throughout the day. Residents of both side of the occupation border were heard applauding the other in support and unity on the Kurdish day of freedom.
Similarly, fires were lit in Qoser, Kelekê in the rural Şêba jer neighbourhood of Derik and Artuklu where Newroz fires were lit in cans in front of workplaces.
AGİRÎ
Newroz fires were also lit in many villages and neighbourhoods in the Patnos district of Agirî. The young people who came together in the village of Kızkapan in the district of Patnos lit the Newroz fire on the hills they climbed. The young people jumped over the enlivened Newroz fire and set fireworks.
WAN
The first Newroz fire of this year was burned by the People’s Demoratic Party (HDP) Provincial Organization administrators at the foot of Erek Mountain in Wan.
HDP members, who jumped over the fire with the participation of the Provincial Co-President Ökkeş Kava, celebrated with folklore.
Kava invited everyone to the balcony and window of their houses tonight to celebrate Newroz with cell phone lights, flashlights, torches, lighters, and folk songs.
