German Chancellor Angela Merkel is sending 32 million euros to Recep Tayyip Erdogan: the money is supposed to help the Turkish Coast Guard to stop more migrants who want to enter the EU. Germany claims the “state interest of Germany” as the reason for the generous gift.
The German government wants to support the Turkish Coast Guard with around 32 million euros so that fewer migrants will arrive at the Greek islands – and thus the EU – in the future. Or at least Merkel says so.
The letter states: “The saving of human lives and the improvement of the humanitarian situation in the Mediterranean region are as much in the state interest of Germany as the prevention of an uncontrolled migration movement towards Germany.”
Angela apparently hadn’t been informed that the refugees imposing a supposed threat to the interests of Germany were displaced by Erdogan himself. She also might have missed that the refugees who were forcibly taken to Turkey were also forcibly dragged to the Greece border by Erdogan elements and fired tear gas at so they do not return. The other more likely option is that Merkel is in fact aiding the Turkish states jihadist adventures under the name of easing the humanitarian crisis on Europe’s front garden.
