A memorial was held in Lavrio, Greece to commemorate Martyr Çiyager who was martyred in the resistance of Sur, and martyrs of the 12 March Qamişlo Uprising. The commemoration ceremony started with a moment of silence as a gesture of respect for the martyrs. Following a minutes silence, the masses shouted “Martyrs are immortal.”
Following the slogans, Welat Dikmen, a member of Tevgera Ciwanên Şoreşger (Revolutionary Youth Movement), commemorated the martyrs in a short speech about the Qamişlo massacre and the Sur resistance. He emphasised that the martyrs should be kept alive at every moment of life and that they should never be forgotten. Later, the massacre were described by Civan Resul and Nurettin Ahmet who witnessed the Qamişlo massacre.
After the speeches, Martyr Çiyager Hevî was commemorated. A letter about Martyr Çiyager was written by a young man who remained among the people who resisted the attacks, part of the last 15 heroes in the Sur resistance.
The letter about Martyr Çiyager shared his dreams and explained the resistance of 15 young people against the attacks of the invading Turkish State. Martyr Çiyager’s last words, “the end will be magnificent no matter what” was read by Şerzan Amed followed by applause and slogans.
Following the speeches, a documentary about the Qamişlo Massacre and Martyr Çiyager was screened. The program then ended with applause and slogans.
