We are experiencing Newroz. We bless the Newroz which makes us feel resistance, birth, victory and the passion for freedom deep within our cells.
On a Newroz day like this, Amed gave birth to another Newroz in all its glory. The grandchildren of Blacksmith Kawa came from all over Kurdistan and carried the enthusiasm of Newroz to Amed. From Botan to Dersim, Serhed, Silemaniye, Mahabad, everyone was there. And you were there, Kemal.
Kemal grew up in Malatya, where the oppression and genocide policies of the invading Turkish state have been intense for years. He is one of the first targets of the fascist Turkish state. After all, he is both Kurdish and Alevi. He is almost on the red list of the fascist state. It is he who was burned in Marash, Sivas and Dersim and suffered genocide.
Kemal was in Ankara on October 10, 2015. He is at the squares against the war-hungry, fascist enemy. And death is present. 103 lives. 103 lives fall to the ground before Kemal’s eyes. He remains under the influence of this massacre for a long time. This massacre marked the fascist Turkish state as the enemy.
He travels from Malatya to Amed’s Newroz which he has been dreaming of since childhood. Ahmet Arif’s poetry book in his bag, Kemal takes on the road with a blissful happiness. As he gets closer to the Newroz area, he experiences feelings that he cannot name in his heart; joy, freedom, resistance, resurrection ….
And again, death is there. An army of murderers who have not seen the light of day. Two bullets infiltrate Kemal’s body. He falls on the sacred ground of Amed like a huge mountain. He falls on the land where the brunette-faced mesopotamian children who will take his revenge sprout. The dark-faced children who say, “There is a revenge to be taken,” and head to the free mountains.
Even just looking at Kemal Korkut’s martyrdom on this day shows us the reality of the Turkish state. Despite the 3 years that passed, the murderers were not punished though images pictured what had befallen. Undoubtedly, it is very absurd to expect justice from the judiciary and court of the Turkish State at this point. As such, as a Kurdish youth, the following lines of Nurî Dersim are a guide to our way.
Revenge! … Revenge … Revenge …
The testament written with blood and tears on the bloody corpses of our martyrs is just one word! Every individual who has honor, every person whose Kurdish heart is fluttering in his voice, and every young person who has Kurdish blood in his veins should not forget this Testament.
