According to Iranian state television, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei will pardon 10,000 prisoners, including political detainees, amid the corona virus epidemic to mark the Newroz new year on Friday,
“Those who will be pardoned will not return to jail … almost half of those security-related prisoners will be pardoned as well,” judiciary spokesman Gholamhossein Esmaili told state TV on Wednesday.
The United Nations called for the release of political prisoners in the country where the number of people who died from the corona virus epidemic exceeded one thousand. Due to the corona virus outbreak in Iran, 85,000 prisoners, including political prisoners, were temporarily released.
