Nadira Kadirova, a 23 year old from Uzbekistan, had been working at the home of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) MP Şirin Ünal for one year when she allegedly committed suicide with Ünal’s weapon on Monday (September 23). The prosecutor of the case closed the file today, without so much as a hearing.
It was also revealed that Ankara Security Directorate, which announced on Wednesday that the incident is suicide, did not take a statement from Niyazova despite being a key witness in the rape case.
Leyla Niyazova, a close friend of Kadirova who spoke with her a day before her death, said that MP Ünal had sexually harassed the young woman, pushing her to suicide.
“She called me at night on September 22. We talked for two hours. She cried a lot. She said, ‘Leyla, I am too tired, I am sick of everything’. When I asked what happened, she would say, ‘I can’t tell’ and then started to cry again,” Niyazova said.
“When I insistently asked what happened, she said, ‘Two weeks ago, I was lying in the room. My boss came in. He locked the door and lied behind me. He cuddled me.’ I asked, if he had raped her. She said, ‘No, he didn’t touch me’ but then cried. ‘My dreams are broken. How can look my brother in the face now?’ she said. She made me promise not to tell anyone about this” the friend explained.
Nadira, during the same conversation had told her friend, ‘I found my boss’ gun. I hid a bullet in my shoe.’ The friend later explained “She didn’t even hold a knife in her life, I thought she was joking. I didn’t even think she would do such a thing.”
Kadirova’s funeral was held in Uzbekistan yesterday. Ünal’s chauffeur closely followed the proceedings of her autopsy which was unusually completed within one day.
