DARMSTADT, GERMANY

Kurdistanis participating in the Long March protests in Darmstadt, Germany, organised a commemoration for HPG (Peoples’ Protection Forces) guerrilla Fırat Çiçek (Baran Kaya) who was martyred in an airstrike carried out by the terrorist Turkish army in the Media Defense Zones.

The memorial was organized by the young people participating in the protest for the physical freedom of the People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan following the February 15th Interstate Conspiracy where the Leader was abducted on his way to Kenya Airport from the Greek embassy in 1999. The Long March which began in Frankfurt on February 8, is set to end in Strasbourg, France, on February 14. The 6-day long protest traditionally ends on February 15 with a chain of actions protesting the abduction of the Peoples’ Leader.

The remembrance which began with a moment of silence in honour of all martyrs of revolution took place in the Darmstadt Democratic Kurdish Community Center where posters of the People’s Leader and the photographs of martyrs were hung. Following the homage, speeches were made on behalf of the Darmstadt Martyr Family Commission and the Young Women’s Movement.

“His aim was a dignified and free life”
Speaking on behalf of the Young Woman Movement, Amargî Şengal wished condolences on behalf of the protesters of the Long March, to the whole of Kurdistan. Amargî expressed that Kaya was a son and comrade to the Kurdish people.

Stating that the aim of Martyr Fırat was to achieve an honourable and free life, Şengal told that he left Europe for Kurdistan to achieve Kurdistan and to fight for it. Amargî added that all young people should understand this struggle well, and concluded her speech by stating that everyone should play their role as the people, and especially as the youth, for the physical freedom of the People’s Leader Öcalan.

“The Kurdish people and their struggle for freedom will never be destroyed”
In a speech made on behalf of the Martyr Family Commission, the Commission representative wished condolences to Martyr Fırat Çiçek’s family and stated that the People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan, who was taken hostage with the interstate conspiracy, was overcoming the conspiracy with his resistance.

Addressing that the abductors of the Peoples’ Leader initially aimed to destroy the Kurdish people in doing so, the representative highlighted that these heinous forces could not achieve their goals, and that the Kurdish people and their struggle for freedom will never be destroyed.

Following the speeches, videos of Martyr Fırat Kaya were screened. The commemoration later ended with the slogan “Sehid Namirin” (Martyrs are immortal).
