AMED, NORTHERN KURDISTAN
Democratic Society Congress (DTK) and Free Women’s Movement (TJA) made a written statement today about the fire in Imrali. The joint statement of DTK and TJA is as follows:
“We have learned from the press that a forest fire broke out on İmralı Island, where Ömer Hayri Konar, Veysi Aktaş and Hamili Yıldırım were detained together with Mr Abdullah Öcalan.
Although the metropolitan and forest firefighters from Mudanya district of Bursa are tried to be delivered to İmralı by sea, it is stated that the storm at sea makes it difficult for the ship. Although it has been suggested that the growing fire is being interfered with despite the effect of the storm, the fire on the island where pine trees and olive trees are located could continue to grow with the effect of the severe winds.
Government officials, especially the Ministry of Justice, should make a statement as soon as possible about this fire, which is not yet known for what reasons has broken out. Immediately afterwards, Mr Öcalan and other prisoners should be contacted by their lawyers and their families, and they should be transported to a safer place as soon as possible.
The persuasive and satisfying explanation can only come after this meeting. Unless this meeting is provided, the government’s statements will be insufficient and incomplete.
It is no longer possible to maintain absolute isolation in this way for a long time. The stage of absolute isolation on Mr Öcalan, who has been detained on İmralı Island for 21 years, is no longer acceptable. The negative situations that developed after 2016, especially the FETO coup attempt, now make it necessary to change the conditions of Mr Öcalan.”
The movements called: “In this context, we invite the national and international democratic society, democratic mass organizations, the press and the public to be sensitive in this regard. ”
