BURSA, TURKEY

A forest fire broke out on İmralı Island, the island which the People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan is being held captive.

According to the information obtained, a forest fire broke out in the morning hours at İmralı Island, which is 10.8 nautical miles to Bozburun on the western end of the Armutlu Peninsula in the Marmara Sea and 6.5 nautical miles to the Susurluk Stream on the shore of Karacabey district.

The fire on the island, where pine trees and olive trees were found, grew under the influence of violent winds.
It has been suggested that Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Fire Department and Forest Regional Directorate teams took action to respond to the fire. It is stated that the metropolitan and forest firefighters from Mudanya district of Bursa are trying to reach Imrali by the sea with the ongoing storm.

On the other hand, it was learned that a military ship from Kocaeli’s Gölcük district was trying to purchase a sprinkler and that a firefighting helicopter was requested from Istanbul.
