TEHRAN, IRAQ

Responsible for judicial power Gulamhüseyin Esmaili, stated in a press conference held in Tehran that around 30 people were detained in the Ukrainian plane investigation. While Esmaili did not elaborate further on the arrests, the actual figure is estimated to be much higher than that which is being disclosed.

On January 8, Iran launched a missile attack on American bases in Iraq, and a Boeing-type Ukrainian passenger plane crashed from Tehran. The Iranian army confessed that they shot down the plane as a result of a mistake, while Iranian authorities previously claimed that they are not responsible for the attack.

After Canada and Britain announced that the plane had been shot down by an Iranian missile, the Iranian regime had admitted that they had shot it down. Most of the 176 killed in the accident were Iranian and Canadian citizens.

After the confession of the Iranian army, protests began in many cities of Iran. Activists accuse officials of trying to cover up the incident. According to opposition sources, the demonstrations spread to 17 states.

Defending the attack, government officials argued that they did not try to conceal their responsibilities and promised that those responsible for the drama would be punished. Today, Esmaili stated that the first arrests were made in relation to the aircraft investigation, but did not elaborate further.
