The tortured face of young BY, who was detained on Wednesday 25 December by the Police Department Smuggling and Organized Crime (KOM) Branch Directorate teams, has surfaced.
Lawyer of BY, Berivan Turan, stated that her client was taken into custody and tortured by the KOM Branch.
The lawyer stated that she was not permitted to interview her client and that the torture, which started in the detention vehicle, was witnessed by the family of BY.
Berivan stated that despite waiting for 4 hours, she was prevented from meeting BY and lawyer Ozgur Deniz Izgi was threatened by the fascist police. On insistence for an interview, the invading police threatened lawyer Ozgur Deniz Izgi saying “I will bury your head in the window.”
When Berivan Turan expressed the allegations of torture, another occupying policeman said, “The cops were also wounded.”
Turan stated that she met with her client at 24.00 at night as a result of her insistence and only then she was able to see the damage to BY’s body. The torture was documented with photographs.
Berivan stated that the Selahattin Eyyubi State Hospital, where her client was referred for a medical report, organized reports that did not reflect the truth.
Berivan stated that her client’s ribs were broken, he was bruised, had swelling, but the hospital does not report these.
A criminal complaint was filed by the lawyer against the police involved in the incident, on the grounds of “deliberate wounding, torture and ill-treatment.”
