ŞIRNEX, NORTHERN KURDISTAN
Today marks the 8th anniversary of the Roboski massacre killing 34 citizens, 19 of whom are children, in the Roboski Village in Şırnex by Turkish warplanes, without as much as a justification.
The people of Roboski, who have not given up on the struggle for justice for years, began to come together once again in the Roboski Martyrs Burial Ground to commemorate their massacred relatives.
Despite the cold weather and snowfall, citizens carried photos of their massacred relatives and set out towards the cemetery. Citizens, as per every year, wore all-black at this year’s commemoration. Some citizens who reached the cemetery, where pain and anger prevail, reacted once again to the absence of perpetrators and once again raised their demands for justice.
Hundreds of soldiers were dispatched to the village before the commemoration, while citizens continued to walk to the cemetery. The fascist, occupying soldiers waited at the entrance and exit of the village.
The commemoration is set to begin, with attendance by the HDP Co-Chair Sezai Temelli, DBP Co-chairs Keskin Bayindir and Saliha Aydeniz, DTK Co-chair Leyla Güven, HDK spokesman Gulistan Kilic Kocyigit and HDP lawmakers, as well as representatives of many non-governmental organizations.
