EDENE, NORTHERN KURDISTAN
A total of 96 people were detained in Adana under the scope of the ‘KCK’ cases launched in 2008, including journalist Seyithan Akyüz, DTK Co-Chairperson and HDP Deputy MP Leyla Güven.
The fascist case cites claims of “being a member of an illegal organization” and “making propaganda of an illegal organization.”
PUNISHMENT FOR 27 PEOPLE
The trials, held in the Adana fascist 5th High Criminal Court, saw the prosecution demand 96 citizens, including Leyla, be punished for “being a member of an illegal organization.”
The court acquitted the defendants for “spreading propaganda for a terrorist organization” and sentenced 27 of them, including journalist Akyüz and Leyla Güven, to 6 years and 3 months each for alleged “membership to a terrorist organization”.
The court acquitted the other 69 defendants faced with the same charges.
Commenting on the verdict of the court after the hearing, lawyer Vedat Özkan said these cases dealt with “conspiracy” files prepared by members of the Gülen Movement.
Lawyer Yasemin Dora Şeker said that 60 people being sentenced to 375 years is against universal values and law.
The lawyers will appeal to a higher court to reverse the judgment.
