STUTTGART, GERMANY
An event was held on 5 December, in Stuttgart named “The Woman’s struggle in Northern Syria/Rojava.” Organized by Frauen Forum Schorndorf (Stuttgart) with the leadership of JXK (Studying Women of Kurdistan Union) and Zip (Center for International Encounters), the aim of the event was to raise funds for the Kurdish Red Crescent (HEYVA SOR) and to explain the situation and struggle of women in Rojava.
First, a member of ZIP, Hilli T, welcomed the participants and introduced the event with a speech. She spoke about Germany’s past: “In the past, there were countless genocides under German responsibility and/or participation.
For example, in Herero and Nama in South-West Africa, like when more than 6 million Jews were killed by the Germans during World War II, like the Sinti and Roma murders.
Germany has led to the deaths of millions of people worldwide. And again comes the German tanks, firing at the Kurdish people in the north of Syria. The invasion of Turkey’s Erdogan in Rojava is illegal, contrary to international law.
Women in Rojava have effectively rescued themselves from traditional stereotypes since 2014. The Kurdish revolution in Rojava is inextricably linked to the women’s revolution. In terms of equality of rights, the Kurdish women’s movement is unique worldwide, and these are the women who resist against resettlement from the fully autonomous region.”
JXK further explained the system in Rojava; “the current situation, first of all, can be understood once we clarify the role of Germany and NATO and arms exports and criticize the passivity of the parties.” The speaker drew attention to the massacre in Tel Rifat and the White Phosphorus attacks.
Emphasizing the importance of making a donation, Hilli stated that there is no local organization other than Heyva Sor that could heal the damage.
She drew attention to Cicek Kobane’s situation and the attack on Hevrin Xelef. “The gains of women is being attacked in Rojava, the gains of all women in fact, so attacking women in Rojava is an attack on all women,” the JXK speaker said.
Meike, from the Free Women’s Foundation of Rojava, described the Model of the Movement of Women in Rojava and pointed out that the organisation of the women of Serekaniye and Gire Spi are now strengthening in the event of refuge. “Organisation that is special in the Kurdish women’s movement,” she said.
She also stressed what the international women’s struggle and the women’s revolution in Rojava meant for all women.
After the speeches, the participants asked questions and read the materials from the knowledge table. After a break, a film that lasts about 30 minutes was shown. Finally a question/discussion tour was held. The event ended at 22 pm.
