QAMİŞLO, WESTERN KURDISTAN
Historian, author, and lecturer at the University of Rojava, Xalis Misewer spoke to our Agency about the occupation attacks of the occupying Turkish state in Rojava Kurdistan and Northern Syria and the historical processes following the Lausanne Treaty.
Xalis Misewer said that great lessons should be learned from history: “According to some historians, History is repeated, according to others it is not. To me, history is not repeated, but it is the mistakes that are repeated. What is history? It is an experience. Circumstances change, times may vary, dates may be different but the genocide of the Kurds has been in process for a long time. And we must ask ourselves, why? The answer is because if lessons are not learned from history, the hand will burn every time it touches fire. Circumstances do not change this.
Numerous massacres have been passed in the history of the Kurdish people.
For example, let’s remember Mahabadi. The soviets had told Qazi Mihemed “we are with you” and they later escaped after making an agreement with Iran. And then take a look at Efrîn. The Russians, in agreement with the Turkish state, played their role of betrayal again. How many centuries had passed between the two biggest betrayals of Kurdish history, for us to forget so quickly?”
Why did the Kurds lose in the Lausanne Treaty?
“The Kurds did not lose in Lausanne only due to M.Kemal. We also lost because of Britain and France. France and Britain supported the Turkish state in this process. It gave support against the Soviets. Again, the Turkish state made so many attacks against the Kurdish people, but these states do not raise their voices. Because they have interests. First of all, their interests come first. The killing of children, women is not important.”
They fear the existence of Kurdish people
Historian Xalis continued his speech as follows: “In Zilan, they massacred the Kurds. In Sykes-Picot, they shared Kurdistan among Turkish, Iranian, Syrian and Iraqi states. All this was done in order to chain the freedom of the Kurdish people.”
We proved humanity in the Rojava revolution
“The geography of Kurdistan is very rich both in underground and above ground. So it was faced with constant invasion attacks. The attacks of the Turkish state today are not independent of this. Another important reason is the results of the Rojava revolution. The Rojava revolution was a source of hope for the peoples. It proved an alternative to the capitalist system. Now the invaders are attacking to destroy them. They want to pass the Kurdish people through genocide.”
Xalis concluded his words by saying, “At such a point, the national unity of the Kurdish people is very important. These attacks are only liquidated by national unity. Therefore, each individual should support the National Unity and work for its development.”
