The Children of Fire Initiative have shared a written statement, detailing actions in Istanbul and Bursa.
Stating that a forested area was burnt in the Gemlik, İnegöl and Karacabey districts of Bursa on 20.12.2019, the Initiative shared that forests were also burnt in Istanbul’s Sancaktepe Aydos Forest amongst different areas, which were undisclosed.
The Initiative expressed that the aim of the fires is political, rather than ecological. “The occupying Turkish state continues to burn Kurdistan, to exploit its natural richness at every given opportunity: sometimes even setting petty fires to the land where they have no interest to avoid our peoples’ from being fed. We do not condone the burning of nature for any reason other than self-defence or retaliation. “
