15-year-old EAY who was working as an apprentice in a spare parts mechanic in Konya was tortured and hanged on a chain hoist for forgetting the type of a screw he was sent to buy.
HHY (17) and his brother EAY started working as an apprentice at the workplace of MC who sold vehicle spare parts last September. After about 20 days, EAY was sent to the material shop to buy screws by the owner MC.
Forgetting the sizes of the screws, EAY called his brother HHY and asked the sizes of the screws to be bought. Returning to the workshop, EAY was hung on a chain hoist by the business owner MC with his trousers pulled down as a punishment. Being left hanging for 15 minutes, the 15-year-old was lowered by MC, fearing that the chain hoist would break.
The two brothers did not tell their family because they were afraid EAY would be left unemployed.
BEATEN
On a separate occasion, elder brother HHY was heavily beaten for allegedly bending a material incorrectly. After being hospitalised, HHY filed a criminal complaint about MC at the fascist police station.
Upon complaint, an investigation was launched against MC on the charges of ‘intentional injury’. After his brother’s incident, EAY also told his family about the violence he had endured by MC. The family filed another criminal complaint, using the photos taken by MC as evidence.
CHEMICAL WATER SQUIRTED ON ME
EAY stated that he had not told his family about the violence because he was afraid. Speaking to Mezopotamya Newsagency, EAY explained:
“I was going to get the screw. I forgot the screw number on the way and called my brother. So he asked MC and returned to me. I took the screw and came to work.
MC said ‘How could you forget the size of screws,’ and first pulled my ear, then hung me with a chain hoist on the ceiling. I was hung in pain for 15 minutes. After a while, they took me down because the hoist would break. I was in pain and I went.
Previously, they sprayed me with chemical water while cleaning the machine at work. The next day I was all over the place. When I think of those moments, I get angry and embarrassed. They attacked my brother with kicks and slaps and bruised his eye.”
