WAN, NORTHERN KURDISTAN
Istanbul-based arrests of 36 members of the HDP (Peoples Democratic Party) on November 8, was condemned by youth in Wan.
In the statement made in the HDP Wan Youth Assembly, MP Muazzez Orhan, and Provincial Co-Presidents Öznur Bartın and Ökeş Kava attended.
Baris Abo, a member of the Youth Assembly stated that the strengthening, united youth movement of Turkey and Northern Kurdistan is being targetted by arrests.
Abo said, “Those who cannot sit comfortably in their palaces these days when the social movements in the world have poured to the streets, have directed their apparatus to the youth who provide the dynamism of society and are the pioneers of social movements.
The AKP-MHP fascist bloc, whose legitimacy is decreasing day by day and trying to maintain its power with war, force and oppression, and has added another one to the political genocide operations it maintains itself off.”
Abo disclosed that the detained members of youth were subjected to naked search and torture.
“He was tortured in a dark room without a camera and gave us the information that he had difficulty walking. Against these tortures 36 of our friends have started a hunger strike. The bare minimum needed by our friends is water and sugar as the Turkish state knows well, yet our comrades on hunger strike were refused their needs as another method of torture.”
Abo stated that despite all the pressures, they will continue their struggle: “The attacks aiming the collapse of the Rojava Revolution, which is the common revolution of the peoples, is sought by the Turkish state.
The Turkish state attempts to destroy the women’s gains, seizes the people’s will with coups, appoints AKP-supporting trustees to the roles of democratically elected members of the HDP and implies the logic of colonial governorship to the municipalities that it has usurped.
Power should know that there is a struggle for freedom of a growing and universalized people against all these attacks.
The ruling media and the judiciary who try to criminalize the work of our youth assembly at every opportunity, claiming it to be illegal should know that we take our legitimacy and righteousness from our people and the rightfulness of our struggle. Therefore, despite the intimidation and arrest operations, we will continue to struggle until we achieve this great march that we took over without taking a step back.
We call on the AKP-MHP fascist government to release our friends immediately. ”
