DERSIM, NORTHERN KURDISTAN
Students of the Munzur University in Dersim, protested the bad conditions of their dormitory.
The students gathered in front of the dormitory and read a press statement expressing their demands, chating “as long as you remain silent, your turn will come”.
The action of the students was blockaded by the occupying Turkish police who demanded that the youth terminate their action, citing the prohibition of the colonial governorship.
In spite of these threats, the students who made a press statement stated that “no one should be afraid, this is a legitimate right and two meals a day are expensive and not enough.” Students who criticized the increase in dormitory fees stated that they would start a boycott action if changes are not made.
“Either this order will change or we will boycott the meals, we will not pay the dormitory fees,” the students said.
In a similar action in Ehlibeyt Girls’ Dormitory, it was stated that the students who protested the conditions in the dormitories were suspended.
