Women students of Munzur University exposed lecturer and Head of Computing, Cem Tekinoğlu, who had paid his way through threatening, harassing, and violating female students for sexual intercourse.
The lecturer was exposed during a rally organised by the New Democrat Young Women organisation and the Munzur Free Student Association. The young women holding the rally chanted “No permission to harassment, We are not anyone’s property” and “Jin, Jiyan, Azadî”(Woman, Life, Freedom).
Dilar Aras, a university student who made a statement on behalf of her friends, said, “As women, we are exposed to harassment, rape and violence in every aspect of our lives. Violence, harassment, rape and massacres have recently increased in academies.”
Reacting to the continuation of Tekinoğlu’s employment despite substantial allegations about him, Aras said, “Recently, universities are known for harassment, violence and rape. When evaluating the success of academies, we research the harassment or violence rates of the institutions, rather than their academic values.”
Aras concluded by drawing attention to the fact that Cem Tekinoğlu continues to remain in office. “This makes us feel uneasy as women. We demand the immediate termination of Tekinoğlu’s post at the university. We are aware of the extent of violence and harassment that exists in the university and we will not give way to it. Take your hands off our universities and all our living spaces. We will overcome this male mentality with the solidarity of women.”
