During the much disputed visit of Erdogan to Washington, Mazlum Ebdi, General of the Syrian Democratic Forces, detailed via social media that a comprehensive attack was launched in the “predominately Christian district of Tel Tamr, causing massive displacement of residents, in clear violation of the cease-fire agreement.”
The General added, “Turkey has occupied 1.100 km2 since the agreement.”
The guarantor of the mentioned ceasefire deal, Trump, had previously complimented Turkey a day after clearing the way for the NATO ally to invade Syria, calling the country a “big trading partner.” Trump also indicated covertly that Turkey’s debt to America’s betrayal of Kurds would be discussed during this meeting, by associating Erdogans pre-organised “plans to visit the U.S. in November.” It is expected that Turkey will drop the S400 in trade for Syria.
Trump’s posture toward Turkey puts him further at odds with many Republicans, who have expressed alarm at the country’s plans for a Syria incursion.
