TIL TEMIR, ROJAVA
Italian international, Leopoldo Odelli, answered the questions of Nuce Ciwan correspondents in Til Temir about the importance of the Rojava revolution, locally and globally.
What brings you to the land of revolution and jihadists?
“I decided to come to Rojava to contribute in the protection of this revolution. I think this revolution is something which is very important for humanity.
In this area DAESH was born after the Syrian spring and the only forces that immediately took a side and decided to fight against this fascism-integrated Islamism are the comrades who organised inside of this revolution
This revolution is not only important for the Middle east, it is a hope for the whole of humanity.”
Why is internationalism important for Rojava, and why is Rojava important for the world?
“I think the Rojava revolution is important for whole of humanity, at first because it was the only force to oppose fascism and secondly because in 2019 a big hope and opportunity that these people showed to us to build new society in cotnradiction to capitalist society which is destroying our Earth and our self, as a human.
Internationalism is important in this revolution. This revolution takes the theory of Serokati and like Abdullah Ocalan says, this revolution is an internationalist revolution because it’s not something built only for the population of the Middle East. It’s something that has to spread all over the world, because it’s a system that guarantees peace.”
“Because of this, all the people in the world have to know what happened here and they have to contribute to this revolution. It shows that something different from the capitalistic society is possible, and it works. It works very good, it was the only force that was able to guarantee peace and stability and something that grows from the people from this land which they want to protect.”
You have been in Rojava since before the war, can you descried the system that had been in place?
“Before the war and still now in the liberated areas there was a democracy but not like in the European sense, there was a real democracy. There was a communal system where every community had the possibility to take decisions by themselves in accordance to their needs and the cultures that are here in the Middle East, that are inside of the territories.”
“It is also a woman revolution. This is one of the most important points. The woman has autonomous space, to discuss between women about their problems and fight against patriarchy.
Another important pillar of this revolution is ecology. This revolution is starting to educate and put focus on the situation on our planet.
I think that these three pillars, the self-administration, the woman’s liberation and the ecology, but also an economy of cooperatives that is not build based on competition between eachother, this was the system that was working and running in Rojava. Still now in the liberated areas, but now all of this is in danger by the attacks of the Turkish state, and the jihadist gangs.”
What can you say about Rojava for the people who have never heard of it?
“I can say that Rojava is a big hope for all humanity and it shows a clear way that everyone can follow. I think that its very important for all people in their countries try to find a solution, that are lost in this system that puts the people against eachother; to come to Rojava or to participate in the movement in Europe, to support Rojava and to get in touch with this reality. Because it opens a lot of possibilities, that at first show the possibility that another world is possible, another system is possible.
It is for all of us something really important, I want to call all the anti-fascist forces, the forces, the people who know what capitalism, imperialism is to come here, to support this revolution.
Its not only in a military sense, the best way to support this revolution is to come here and get in touch with this revolution. To know what are the pillars of this revolution. To stay here, to give your contributions, and then come back to your country and spread this revolution and their values. “
