MÛŞ – NORTHERN KURDISTAN

The gravestone of the Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) town president who lost his life in prison a prison in Muş was confiscated by the invading Turkish soldiers following the instructions of the fascist Bulanık Prosecutor’s Office.

The gravestone of Kaya, who died in Muş E Type Closed Prison, was confiscated because it had the Kurdish inscription “Em te ji bîn nakin” (We will not forget you).

On 29 October the elder brother of Kaya was invited to the occupying police station of Lîz (Erentepe) where he was told that “according to the instructions of the Prosecutor’s Office, the gravestone will be destroyed.”

Brother Kaya reported that he was called in to the police station “on October 27th. Since I was in the village, I was only able to go to the police station on 29 October. The commander and the officer in charge showed me a photograph of my brother’s grave.”

After being asked what the Kurdish-written inscript meant, brother Kaya would explain the meaning to which the fascist commander responds to by saying “are you sure?”

“I said I was sure, that the article had no other meaning. Then he told me, The prosecutor has instructions, we will break this tombstone. When I objected, he asked me to bring a marblemaker and break it. We went to the cemetery with the soldiers, we also called a marbleist, but the marbleist could not remove the stone. Then the soldiers said, ‘It is the prosecutor’s instruction, we must remove it’ and they broke the gravestone out.”

Brother Kaya, who stated that the invading Turkish soldiers did not give a reason as to why the gravestone was taken away, expressed: “My brother was detained 7 years ago and was arrested and put in prison despite being ill. He passed away three days later. Now they took the tombstone. He lies in a grave without a gravestone.”
