Yashar Kassar, a close friend of former British intelligence (MI6) officer James Gustaf Edward Le Mesurier who died in Istanbul, argued that Le Mesurier was on the black list of Russia and Syria, arguing that his death was murder, not suicide.
Former British intelligence (MI6) officer and founder of the White Helmets aid group, James Gustaf Edward Le Mesurier, was found dead in a garden on Monday in central Istanbul’s Beyoglu district. While facts remain undisclosed on the case, Yashar Kassar alleges that James was murdered.
Speaking to Mesopotamia Agency, Kassar explained that the two had met three years ago through the humanitarian organisation, providing aid in Turkey and Syria. “I see no reason for him to kill himself,” said Kassar, arguing that it was murder.
“He was a very regular, very good person. In my opinion he was killed. We have come across different discourses by the Russian and Syrian regime. And James, as well as other White Helmets, were in the area where the Syrian regime was, because they showed the world what was going on. He obtained very clear evidence, he showed the brutal behavior of Russia and the Syrian regime, what was done to schools, civilians’ homes and hospitals. His job was to help civilians. Of course he was going to be killed for these reasons. The Syrian regime tried to blacklist the white helmets many times last year.”
