Erdoğan who met with Trump, later gathered with US senators to answer their questions but reacted to the statements of senators about the Kurds. Responding to the questions, Erdoğan said: “We need to distinguish one thing in particular: Kurds and terrorists.”
US House of Representatives and a senator recalled the Armenian genocide bill of sanctions against Turkey in the Assembly and said: “We have some concerns. The S-400 system is not compatible with the F-35s. The second is about the Kurds. Together with the United States, they fought against our common enemies (ISIS). And there are serious concerns. We want Turkey to stop attacking them.”
Attempting to sway tensions, Erdogan claimed that the PYD/YPG are terrorist organizations, while the Kurds are not. In this Erdogan’s wishes to criminalise the self-protection forces which not only the Kurds, but the peoples of North and East Syria accept as their will. What lurks is Erdogan’s rage that the Kurds in neighbouring Rojava are not as easy to manipulate or massacre.
Refering to Northern Kurdistan which Turkey occupies as “my country,” Erdogan says: “Kurds are also my citizens. My country is where Kurds live most in the world.”
He adds, “the number of Kurds who defected from Kobane to my country during the Obama era were 350 thousand. No one accepted them, but we did.” To understand the legitimacy of this sentence, one must replace the word ‘Kurds’ with the word ‘ISIS’.
