LAVRIO, GREECE
The 41st anniversary of the establishment of the PKK was celebrated with great enthusiasm in Lavrio, Greece with an event dedicated to the occassion.
Held by the Kurdistan Cultural Center and Tevgera Ciwanên Şoreşger (Revolutionairy Youth Movement), the event in the Lavrio municipality congress hall was attended by hundreds of Kurdistanis, as well as left and socialist organizations and Greek people.
Banners were hung in the hall, depicting the Peoples leader Abdullah Öcalan and PKK’s leading commanders Mahsum Korkmaz (Martyr Egid).
The celebration began with a minute of silence to commemorate the martyrs of revolution. Following, speeches were made on behalf of Kurdish organizations and institutions. Speaking on behalf of the Kurdistan Cultural Center, Burhan Karakoç, expressed that “the PKK resurrected the hope of freedom of the Kurdish people’s march to victory.”
Speaking on behalf of the Democratic Society Congress, Kurdish politician Selim Sadak wished the Resurrection Day to be instrumental in Kurdish national unity.
In the celebration, the PYD and YNK made speeches on regarding the PKK`s years of historical resistance, drawing attention to the importance of national unity.
Jacques Leleu, one of the Solidarity Convoy activists who participated in the celebration from France, stated that they are aware of the attacks that the Kurdish people have been subjected to throughout history and said “We want to stand by the Kurdish people.”
Following the speeches, Lavrio children’s choir and local artists took the stage. During the celebration where folklores were performed to the melodies of the revolution, a documentary was also shown on the establishment of the PKK.
The celebration ended with the slogans and plays performed by the Cretan Folk Dance team.
