AMED, NORTHERN KURDISTAN
HDP Amed Youth Assembly of the Rezan District released a statement regarding the detention and torture of 36 members of the HDP’s youth organisation.
HDP Amed Youth Assembly Member Abdulbahri Mavlay spoke to the press, stating that “the fascist AKP-MHP bloc, whose legitimacy is decreasing day by day, is trying to maintain its power with war, force and pressure, and has added a new addition to it’s political genocide operations.”
Mavlay stated that 36 members of the Youth Assembly, including 6 Executive Board members, were taken into custody.
Mavlay communicated that the youth were exposed to naked searches and torture.
“In the same way, our comrades who were brought to the courthouse by the police to extend the 4-day detention order were brought with reverse handcuffs, and when they returned to the courthouse, our executive member Metin Yılmaz refused a naked search imposition in the Vatan Police Department so he was tortured in a dark room.”
Mavlay stated that 36 people have started a hunger strike against these tortures and said that the youth on hunger strike were not given water and sugar.
Mavlay underlined that the activities of the HDP’s youth assemblies were criminalized and demonstrated as illegal by the media and judiciary close to the government, and said that they took their legitimacy and right from the public.
Mavlay concluded: “despite intimidation and arrest operations, we will continue to fight without taking a step back.”
